TESOL Preparation Program

Run in partnership with LTI - Language Training Institute

Registered Training Organisation Provider No: 30173

Who should do this course?

This course is perfect for those wishing to teach English overseas in countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia or most of Central America where a less formal qualification is required.

Students may also be able to get jobs in other Latin American countries in less formal schools, such as conversational English schools.

This course is also excellent for those who are thinking about doing the complete Cert. IV in TESOL but are not yet ready to invest the time or money involved.

The best thing is, with the credit you'll get from this course, you'll already be well on your way to the Cert. IV if you decide to upgrade at any time in the future.

Course outline:

First weekend:

The first weekend provides trainees with basic classroom skills, as well as raises awareness of the ESL profession both within Australia and abroad.

Trainees will gain a basic understanding of English grammar and the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), as well as learn teaching skills that can be put into practice immediately in the communicative language classroom.

The weekend aims to build confidence through facilitating peer practice opportunities, as well as present a ‘taster’ of the TESOL profession.

Second weekend:

Building on the first weekend, trainees will consolidate their growing language awareness by observing and practicing approaches for teaching grammar lessons.

In addition, trainees will learn how to adapt resources for use in the TESOL classroom and design lessons to enhance students’ listening and reading abilities.

It also offers further opportunities to practice newly-learnt teaching skills (through peer teaching) and opportunity to enhance awareness of grammar and phonology.

Units covered:

The following units from the Cert. IV course are covered in the TPP. This means that if students decide to continue on with the full course, these units will not need to be repeated.

- Analyse language, culture and learning
- Grammar
